Hey there! As we step into the new year, it's a great time to embrace the Year of the Horse. Today, we're all about setting intentions, looking back at the past year, and making efforts to put self-care and balance front and center.
Reflecting on the Year Past
Moving from the Year of the Snake to the Year of the Horse gives us a chance to hit pause and reflect. December was a whirlwind for many, including our therapists here at You YXE. For Carissa it came as an unexpected trip to Toronto for her daughter's surgery, and for Alana, two suddenly ill pets- one that turned to loss. It was a real eye-opener that life doesn’t always stick to the plan. Navigating our seperate holiday experiences reminded us of the importance of being flexible and resilient.
Amid the holiday chaos, we both realized that self-care couldn’t be left on the back burner. It was crucial for our well-being and for supporting our families. The takeaway? Keeping balance is essential, even when life gets crazy.
Finding Balance and Prioritizing Self
With the new year, we understood the need to slow down and enjoy some healthy alone time. Things like getting massages, setting boundaries, and using helpful services like grocery delivery and a great cleaner (from Prairie Sparkle) became part of Carissa’s new routine. These changes let her focus on what truly mattered—being there for her family and clients while taking care of myself.
The holiday season reminded Alana that it’s okay, even necessary, to step back and recharge. She ignored the pressure to be constantly productive and instead embraced stillness, nourishing meals, and moments of rest. It was a needed break from the hustle and bustle.
The Power of Intentions Over Resolutions
In the last few years, we've moved from setting strict resolutions to creating meaningful intentions. Resolutions often felt like unreachable goals, leading to letdowns. Now, Alana prefers to focus on intentions that boost self-care and personal growth. Carissa has started the year off with some promises to herself, to be intentional about where she puts her energy and where she is showing up 100%. This year, we both have a goal to carve out more space for ourselves—whether that’s through therapy, downtime, or simply enjoying time with loved ones.
This mindset shift acknowledges life's unpredictability and the need for flexibility. By focusing on intentions, we allow ourselves the freedom to adapt and adjust as needed, without the stress of meeting impossible expectations.
Embracing the Year of the Horse
As we gallop into the Year of the Horse, it’s a time for creativity, adventure, and living life to the fullest. This year encourages us to let go of what no longer serves us and to chase our passions with enthusiasm. It’s about embracing our true selves and moving forward with courage and authenticity.
In this new season, let’s commit to releasing limitations and embracing life’s possibilities. Whether it’s nurturing relationships, diving into creative projects, or simply taking time for self-care, the Year of the Horse invites us to live boldly and authentically.
The Bottom Line?
As we start this journey together, we both want to thank everyone who follows our social media, read this blog, or listens to our podcast. Your support is what keeps us going. Here’s to a year of intentional living, self-care, and enjoying the wild ride of life.
Until next time, happy non-resolution making and cheers to a year filled with balance and joy!
