Celebrating Pride Month: Joy, Community, and Acceptance

As May wraps up, we’re gearing up for Pride Month, and you can feel the buzz in the air. June is when people all over the world come together to celebrate love, diversity, and acceptance. For a lot of us, including us here at You Therapies, it’s one of the most exciting times of the year. The energy of Pride is contagious, and it’s all about being your true self without holding back.

A Month of Events and Community Fun

June is packed with events that really bring out that sense of community and belonging. In Saskatoon, where the queer scene isn’t super lively all year, Pride Month is like a burst of activity. Every weekend and often during the week, there are events where we can hang out with other queer folks and allies. It’s a chance to mingle, celebrate, and be part of something bigger.

Personal Journeys and Finding Yourself

Pride isn’t just about parades and parties; it’s also about personal journeys and self-acceptance. After spending so many years in the closet, Pride Month has a special place in the heart of our resident addictions and Kambo practitioner, Carissa. As she puts it "It’s a time when I can think about my journey and admire those who confidently embrace who they are. Last year, watching the parade, I was moved to tears—not from sadness, but from pure joy and contentment. It was a moment of realizing how far I’d come in my own journey of self-awareness and self-love." For trauma therapist Alana, Pride signifies community and not being alone. "Growing up, I was lucky to have a queer aunt, and be able to attend events like Vancouver Pride, and just always knew that I had community in my immediate family because it was visible, so I never felt I had to hide who I was from them."

Joining in the Parade

This year, we're pumped to say we’re joining the Pride parade. Being part of such a lively event is thrilling. It’s more than just walking in a parade; it’s about standing up for what we believe in and showing our support for the community. As business owners, it’s crucial for us to be visibly supportive and create safe spaces where everyone feels welcome.

Safe Spaces and Acceptance

Creating safe spaces is key for self-discovery and acceptance. Many of us have been in situations where it wasn’t safe to be ourselves. That’s why it’s important to have spaces where everyone—regardless of their identity or background—can explore who they are. It’s about more than just acceptance; it’s about creating an environment where everyone can thrive.

Pride Without Prejudice

This year’s parade theme, “Pride Without Prejudice,” really speaks to us. At our practice, we work hard to make sure everyone feels safe and valued. It’s a place where labels don’t matter, and everyone is encouraged to be their authentic selves. Whether you’re exploring your identity or just looking for a supportive community, we welcome you with open arms.

Join the Celebration

We invite everyone to join us in celebrating Pride Month. The parade in Saskatoon is set for Sunday, June 22nd, and it’s going to be a day filled with joy, love, and acceptance. Alana's daughter is already buzzing with excitement, planning her outfit and making sure we have plenty of rainbows and flags to share.

Pride is a time to reflect on the journey we’ve taken, celebrate the progress we’ve made, and look forward to a future filled with love and acceptance for all. We hope to see you at the parade, sharing in the joy and vibrancy of this awesome community event. Rain or shine, we’ll be there, and we hope you will be too!
